Dear Colleagues,

Our forests, which play a vital role in the fight against climate change, have to respond to the increasing and differentiating needs of the society as a result of expanding industrialization and population. In this context, management of the forestry activities carried out in our forests which are extremely important for the continuity of the ecosystem should have a different perspective and understanding. In addition to these, high value-added products which are obtained from the forest should be presented to the use of humanity with an effective, efficient and sustainable approach.

At the beginning of 2019, in the scope of "The Mission Differentiation and Specialization Aimed at Regional Development Project" by Council of Higher Education (CoHE) of Turkey Kastamonu University was declared as one of the five universities. Kastamonu University has designated as the university specialized in "Forestry and Nature Tourism". Within the scope of the specialization, 85 projects have been prepared in the last year and all necessary opportunities have been used every means available to implement these projects.

Kastamonu province which is accepted as the forestry centre of Turkey is covered by forest about 67% of its surface area. Also in Turkey, with 3.4 million m3 it is the Regional Directorate where the highest amount of forest goods is produced. Within the borders of the province where there are three national parks and in addition to approximately 400 forest products processing plant SMEs there are worldwide facilities as Kronospan, Kastamonu Entegre, Ekol Plywood, Çağ plywood and Dortek. In the manufacturing of wooden doors, Kastamonu also has a significant share in the total production of Turkey.

In addition, Kastamonu University Faculty of Forestry, founded in 1992, has 54 academic staff, master's and doctoral programs and has proved itself in the field with its existing laboratory and research infrastructure and national and international scientific activities, and has been providing manpower support to forestry organization and industry for 17 years.

As The Kastamonu University, in order to share, mature and prepare the ground for new studies, the theme of the "1st international forestry and nature tourism congress", which will be held between 25-27 November 2020, was determined as "new approaches and trends in forestry".

This year, the first congress will be organized by the Faculty of Forestry and we hope that the congress will bring a new impetus to forestry, we look forward to the valuable participation and contributions of all relevant academicians and researchers with the wish of making significant contributions to forestry in our country and the world.
