Dear SIP Members and Scientists,
It is a great pleasure to invite you to attend 43th Annual Meeting of the Society for Invertebrate Pathology, 10th International Colloquium on Invertebrate Pathology and Microbial Control, and The Final Meeting of COST862: Bacterial Toxins for Insect Control which will be held on July 11-15, 2010, at the campus of Karadeniz Technical University, Trabzon-Turkey.

We are planning an exceptional scientific program to explore the most current international findings on invertebrate pathology, including biological control of insect pests, understanding disease in beneficial invertebrates, medical and biotechnological significance of entomopathogens and fundamental scientific research in host-pathogen interactions.

Trabzon is said to have been founded in the 7th century BC by Miletion colonists and then Alexies Comnenes founded the Comnenos Empire, which lasted until 1461 when the Ottomans took over the area. Because of its important location on the historic Silk Route between Europe and Asia, Trabzon was the seat of several civilizations throughout history. The city was established on the cost of Black Sea and is now an important port of trade and continuing its traditional historical role.

Karadeniz Technical University (KTU) is a state university, located in Trabzon. KTU is the fourth oldest university and one of the largest educational institutions in Turkey, having a beautiful campus setting, an institution of first-class indoor and outdoor sport and leisure facilities.

With its magnificent vistas situated amidst the greenery and abundance of historical and spectacular sites, Trabzon, on the Northern cost of Turkey, promises to ensure an exciting scientific and cultural event.

It is very easy to reach Trabzon by air, bus and ship. There are plenty of direct flights from the major cities of Turkey and Europe. The university campus is very close, at walking distance, to the airport and bus station in Trabzon.

We look forward to welcoming you at Trabzon in July 2010.

Sincerely,

Zihni Demirbag, Ph.D.
